Universality in Two Dimensional Gauge Theory
We discuss two dimensional Yang – Mills theories with massless fermions in arbitrary representations of a gauge group G. It is shown that the physics (spectrum and interactions) of the massive states in such models is independent of the detailed structure of the model, and only depends on the gauge group G and an integer k measuring the total anomaly. The massless physics, which does depend on ...
متن کاملA Finite Dimensional L∞ Algebra Example in Gauge Theory
We construct an example of a finite dimensional L∞ algebra which is generated by a Lie algebra together with a non-Lie action on another vector space. We then show how this example fits into the gauge transformation theory of Berends, Burgers and Van Dam.
متن کاملSavvidy "ferromagnetic vacuum" in three-dimensional lattice gauge theory.
The vacuum effective potential of three-dimensional SU(2) lattice gauge theory in an applied color-magnetic field is computed over a wide range of field strengths. The background field is induced by an external current, as in continuum field theory. Scaling and finite volume effects are analyzed systematically. The first evidence from lattice simulations is obtained of the existence of a nontri...
متن کاملTwo-Dimensional Gravity and Nonlinear Gauge Theory
We construct a gauge theory based on nonlinear Lie algebras, which is an extension of the usual gauge theory based on Lie algebras. It is a new approach to generalization of the gauge theory. The two-dimensional gravity is derived from nonlinear Poincaré algebra, which is the new Yang-Mills like formulation of the gravitational theory. As typical examples, we investigate R2 gravity with dynamic...
متن کاملLattice Gauge Theory
Supercomputers have recently become a crucial tool for the quantum field the-orist. Applied to the formalism of lattice gauge theory, numerical simulations are providing fundamental quantitative information about the interactions of quarks, the fundamental constituents of those particles which experience nuclear interactions. Perhaps most strikingly, these simulations have provided convincing e...
